Hand-colored quarter-plate daguerreotype in leather case of Susan Woodward Haven Emerson (1807-1868). She was the wife of Ralph Waldo Emerson's brother, William Emerson (1801-1868). The photograph was taken by Jeremiah Gurney of New York, N.Y. Enclosed is a note in an unknown hand that identifies the photograph.
